A Busy but Unorganized Sort of Week

You wouldn't think that the simple task of packing up Eve's belongings to load into the car to take to London could take so long.  Eve is now in London, she went by train on Thursday with enough stuff to last for a few days.  All the rest of her belongings are still in Liverpool waiting to be driven down.

So I have spent the last few days, sorting, packing and loading up her stuff.

There was a time when I thought it wasn't going to fit into our small car - but I did manage it.  I think a love of jigsaw puzzles helped me to fit everything in and some super vacuum bags that compressed all the bedding and towels down to a manageable size.

So we're ready for the off, to drive down to London so that we can reunite Eve with her belongings.

I feel that I haven't caught up with myself this week, there seems to be a lot of unfinished business.  Knitting and crocheting have been neglected and it's been difficult to find time to blog.

I'm hoping that next week will be different.  I'm definitely planning on being organised next week!  I have serious plans for September.

In the meantime, I'm feeling very indifferent to my current knitting project.  It's the Dancing Bees shawl.

Each section of the pattern represents something different.  The first section is the bees in the hive.

The second section is the honeycomb of the hive.

The third section is the bees a outside the hive.

The fourth section is lavender flowers.

And the fifth section is a trellis.

The final section will be the border which is more flowers.

I'm just not liking the different sections, I don't think they flow into each other very well.  The lavender section doesn't do anything for me.  The shawl is also very large, far larger than I would need, and that was after doing a reduced number of repeats.

I may give the border a try and see how it looks, but I've a feeling this shawl is heading for the frog pond.  We'll see!  What do you think?

  1. I hope Eve likes London, please let me know if she needs any advice etc. I have lived in the east suburbs pretty much all my life. If she likes to knit there are few yarn shops in these parts - a couple in north east London (Loop). Other than that Liberty and John Lewis on Oxford Street. However we do have Ally Pally in October. I like your shawl and you may need a big shawl in the winter. it looks far too pretty, with far too much stunning work to be consigned to the frog pond.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind offer of advice. Unfortunately Eve isn't a knitter but I'll be looking out for knitting shops when I visit her. We've just discovered that Petticoat Lane market closes the streets around where she is living, so we may have a problem getting to her flat when we arrive tomorrow. Hopefully Middlesex Street will be open again by three o'clock but I'm not feeling confident.

    2. Crumbs yes - Petticoat Lane is pretty sprawling on a Sunday. Good luck.

    3. Having done some more research and realised the extent of the disruption of Petticoat Lane market, we've decided to postpone the trip to London until Monday.

  2. Seems like a trying week, hope the bank holiday weekend improves things. I actually love the shawl and think a large shawl is perfect for snuggling under during the cooler months with a book.

  4. I hope that all goes well for Eve. Quite a challenge to pack a whole life into one car! You did well with that. I like your shawl and the different parts and meanings of it! xx

  5. Not easy packing up your baby, even if she is ready to go. Good luck with the car packing, the drive and the drop off. Hugs to you Janet,

  6. I like the honeycomb section of your shawl but I think the outer edge is too "holey"
I would probably catch my fingers in it. Like you said it doesn't quite flow. The pattern goes a bit too far with the lavender and trellis as well. Although I can see the idea behind it. I'm sure you will sort it !

  7. I think you should wait to block your shawl before every decision to unravel It.
It could change completely its appearance,
