An Alternative Use

Embroidery was my first love.  As a child and teenager I loved embroidering tray cloths and tablecloths.  In the 1990s I discovered cross stitch.  I made numerous pictures, cards and anything else I could think of.  Over the years I have accumulated quite a substantial stash of embroidery threads.

I have four boxes of sorted threads, all neatly wound onto bobbins.

In addition I have all of these.

Unfortunately, these days, my eyesight is not as good as it used to be.  I can only embroider for short periods of time, otherwise my eyes get too strained.

Even if I could embroider without the eye-strain, it would take a lifetime to use up all those threads.  So what do you do with all the threads?

Easy!  Think of an alternative use - crocheting.

These little squares measure only about two inches across.  It may take some time to work through the mountain of threads but I think they'll eventually make a rather colourful blanket.

  1. What a wonderful idea! :)

Don't feel bad about the eyes not being what they use to be...I am right there with ya!

I miss stitching a lot...but it's almost impossible to do it anymore without a lot of discomfort...but I can crochet and knit, so I am happy with that. :) The glass is always half full you know!

    Blessings always

  3. I have made one of your flowers with embroidery thread - it looks great. You should be able to make some lovely things with that collection.
    Have fun!
